There are two major types of treatments used for anti-wrinkles injections: based on botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid.
The most famous anti-wrinkle treatment is Botox®. It is a highly diluted botulinum neurotoxin produced by anaerobic bacterium. This toxin is one of the most poisonous natural substances in the world but in minute doses it is widely used for medical and cosmetic purposes. It is sold under brand names Botox® and Dysport® (Speywood Biopharm, UK). These treatments block mimic muscles removing the cause of wrinkles formation on the forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes, and frown lines between the eyebrows. In addition botulinum-based treatments can help reduce headaches
caused by excessive tension of mimic muscles.
Hyaluronic acid treatments fill up hyaluronic acid deficit in skin tissues and emerging moisture deficiency in the place of wrinkle formation. Hyaluronic acid injections, such as
Restylane® (Q-med, Sweden), eliminate deep wrinkles in areas of active mimic muscles movements (e.g., nasolabial furrows and deep smile lines where botulinum toxin is quickly
dissolved).
What wrinkles can be eliminated by injection methods?
Injection methods are recommended for elimination of small, medium and deep wrinkles on face, neck and other parts of the body. As a result existing wrinkles decrease, small ones even disappear, and new wrinkles will not appear in place of injection for several months (until the treatment wears-off).
How fast is the result achieved?
The result is achieved immediately after first injection. The effect lasts for 6-8 months for hyaluronic acid treatments and for 4-6 months for botulinum toxin. After that re-injection should be performed, its effect will last for up to one year. It is necessary to repeat injections periodically to maintain their effect after resolution (hyaluronic acid) or end of action (botulinum toxin).
Injection procedure
Injections of anti-wrinkle treatments are performed in our center by sterile disposable instruments. Several intramuscular or intracutaneous injections are made that are virtually painless except for lips area where injections are made under local anesthesia. Injection procedure duration is up to 30-40 minutes.
